4th of July

Well....the 4th didn't go quite as we planned. I was asked to come into work on my day off to cover for someone else. I was able to get some OT hours (which is usually nice for the obvious $$ reasons), and still manage to get out by 8:00PM. I ran home and Tyler and Cera were SOOO excited to go see "boom booms." So, I changed, we headed out and found parking without too much hassle. We went to the main "gathering" point for fire works and found some real estate to camp out in. We did our best to entertain Tyler and Cera before the fireworks started, but they were pretty restless. FINALLY, the fire works started, but we had two problems. One, We managed to find the perfect spot to watch....a tree. The fireworks were directly behind it and we could see pretty much nothing. We tried to move over a bit...but were prohibited by problem number two: Cera and Tyler had decided the "boom booms" weren't so much fun after all, and almost immediately, Tyler grabbed my hand and was saying with great concern "Walk, daddy. Walk!" and pointing away from the park. Cera was sitting on Beth's lap absolutely shaking, apparently too scared to complain much. Carter on the other hand barely showed any signs of even acknowledging the loud noises and lights, except he did glance up to what we could see of them through the leaves. Well....2 minutes into the show we couldn't see we determined we should probably cut our losses and go home. Interestingly enough we noticed once we got back to the car that we had a much better view of the fireworks. Plus we turned on the AC, which made us all a little more comfortable, and we also turned on a local radio station that plays patriotic music during the fireworks. To top it all off...Cera and Tyler seemed to regain some of their enthusiasm for "boom booms" since the "BOOMS" weren't so loud this far away, and inside the car. All in all...it was a nice night out with the family.
